Why convert HEIC to JPG?

HEIC is the default photo format on iPhones since iOS 11. It stores high-quality images at roughly half the file size of JPG — great for your phone's storage, but a headache everywhere else. Most Windows PCs, older Android phones, email clients, upload forms and government portals cannot open HEIC files. Converting to JPG solves the compatibility problem instantly: JPG opens on virtually every device, app and website ever made.

How to convert HEIC to JPG

1. Drop your .heic files into the box above, or click to choose them from your device. You can convert several at once.
2. Press Convert to JPG. Each photo is decoded and re-encoded at high quality (92%) right in your browser.
3. Your JPGs download automatically — a single file downloads directly, multiple files arrive as a ZIP.

This tool uses WebAssembly to decode HEIC entirely on your device. Your photos are never uploaded to any server, which matters when they include personal or sensitive images.

HEIC vs JPG

HEIC is technically superior: smaller files at the same visual quality, plus support for features like Live Photos and 10-bit color. JPG wins on compatibility — nothing else comes close. Until every platform reads HEIC natively, converting to JPG remains the practical answer for sharing, uploading and archiving iPhone photos outside the Apple ecosystem.

Frequently asked questions

What is a HEIC file?

HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is Apple's implementation of the HEIF standard, used as the default camera format on iPhones and iPads since iOS 11. It compresses photos more efficiently than JPG but is poorly supported outside Apple devices.

Will I lose quality converting HEIC to JPG?

At the 92% quality setting this tool uses, the difference is invisible in normal viewing. You will lose Apple-specific extras like Live Photo motion and Portrait depth data, which JPG cannot store. Keep your original HEIC files if those matter.

Why can't Windows open my iPhone photos?

Windows does not ship with HEVC decoding built in. You can buy a codec from the Microsoft Store for viewing, but converting to JPG is the simpler fix when you need to share, upload or edit the photos.

Are my photos uploaded anywhere?

No. Decoding runs in WebAssembly inside your browser tab. Your photos never leave your device — not even their metadata.

Can I convert multiple HEIC files at once?

Yes. Select several files and they are all converted; multiple outputs are bundled into a single ZIP download.

What is the difference between HEIC and HEIF?

HEIF is the container standard; HEIC is Apple's version of it using HEVC compression. In practice the terms refer to the same .heic files your iPhone creates.

Private by design
